PSL 10: Big Players Ready to Join PSL 2025

Friends, Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 is set to kick off on April 8th, following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy. During this period, the IPL will also be underway. This creates a challenging situation because many star players will participate in the IPL, but a few big names are available for PSL 10, as discussed earlier.

The issue arises from a decision made by PSL management regarding player negotiations. Some top players who went unsold in the IPL such as Steve Smith, David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, and Kane Williamson were approached by the PSL franchises or their agents. However, these players demanded significantly higher fees.

For instance, if PSL offers a top player a maximum of $200,000, these players reportedly ask for $500,000. In response, the PSL management left it up to individual franchises to negotiate with players. This has led to competition among franchises, driving up player costs.

This situation significantly inflates player prices, putting a financial burden on the franchises. The PSL franchises, which have only recently started recovering from financial losses, now face increased expenses. Although star players will join the league, this situation is not sustainable for the franchise owners, creating a lose-lose scenario.

PSL management has a budget cap (e.g., $200,000 per player). If they directly negotiate, they are restricted by this cap. However if franchises are left to handle negotiations independently, the costs spiral out of control.
