That’s why the PCB and PSL heads have launched a category called “Marquee Players”. Marquee players will be selected in advance, and this category will include almost 8 to 18 top players.
These 18 players will have contracts ensuring they do not leave the tournament halfway. The salary for these players will range from 1 million to 2 million dollars, approximately 27 million rupees. This contract will ensure they play the entire PSL tournament. This is a great decision by the PCB and PSL heads to launch the Marquee Players category.
Increase salaries for Platinum Category Players
The second point is to increase salaries for Platinum category players. To make PSL 2025 successful, PCB need to increase the salaries of players in the Platinum category to around 200,000 to 500,000 dollars. This will encourage them to choose the PSL over the IPL.
Player Poaching
The third point is to poach players. Since both the IPL and PSL will be happening simultaneously, PCB should target big players who are usually warming the bench in the IPL. PSL Franchises should pick players like Glenn Phillips, David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, Kane Williamson, Kyle Jamieson, and others who often sit on the bench in the IPL and bring them to the PSL with better offers.
Tournament Length
The fourth point is the length of the tournament. The PSL runs for less than a month, whereas the IPL lasts about two and a half months. If PCB offers big players more money and a shorter tournament, they might prefer the PSL over the IPL. The PSL is shorter, with about 10 matches, which means players can earn their money and go home faster compared to the lengthy IPL season.
International Broadcasting Channels
The last point is broadcasting channels. PSL is ahead of the IPL in broadcasting. For the past five years, PSL has had excellent international commentators and international broadcasting for the PSL. PSL stakeholders are also international. In this regard, the PSL is ahead of the IPL. The IPL has moved its league to Jio Cinema, while PSL has maintained our international standards in broadcasting.
