Ali Tareen Set to Join Bidding for the Two New PSL Teams
An interesting development has emerged ahead of the PSL 2026, as Ali Tareen has confirmed his intention to participate in the bidding process for the two new PSL franchises.
Ali Tareen has publicly stated that he will take part in the bidding, but it remains unclear in what capacity. PCB sources confirm that 12 parties submitted bidding documents, out of which two were rejected on technical grounds. Ten bidders have now qualified for the next stage, though their identities have not been disclosed. The PCB has only confirmed that bidders are from the USA, Australia, UAE and Pakistan.
The qualified bidders will compete in an open auction on 8 January in Islamabad, where the two new PSL teams will be sold.
There are multiple possibilities regarding Ali Tareen’s involvement. He may be directly linked to one of the approved bidders, could be backing another party financially, or may be part of a joint investment group where another entity is acting as the front bidder.
Ali Tareen brings prior franchise experience, having independently managed Multan Sultans from 2023 to 2025. His exit from the franchise was linked to valuation and financial structure issues, but his return signals continued interest in PSL ownership.
All speculation will be settled on 8 January, when the auction concludes and the owners of the two new PSL franchises are officially announced.
