PSL officials are working to ensure all teams have competitive, well-balanced squads while maintaining the tournament’s overall quality.
In previous seasons, each team was allowed to retain eight players. However, for the upcoming season, the number of retentions will be reduced due to the introduction of a mega draft or mega auction.
From now on, teams will be allowed to retain only three players directly, with the option to retain one additional player using the Right to Match card. This brings the total number of retentions per team to four.
A new restriction is also being discussed regarding category-based retentions. Under the proposed rule, each team can retain only one player from each category. For example, one from Platinum, one from Diamond, one from Gold, and one from any other category of choice.
This marks a significant change from the previous system, where teams could retain multiple players from the same category. The new cap aims to ensure fair distribution of top players across all franchises, especially with two new teams entering the league.
The category limit may cause challenges for stronger teams, as some of their key players could move to other or newly formed teams. Discussions are ongoing about which players might be released under the new retention rules and which franchises could be affected the most.
