PSL 11 – Hyderabad Sign Glenn Maxwell
Hyderabad has officially announced the signing of Glenn Maxwell ahead of PSL 11, surprising many fans and analysts.
Earlier, PSL management had indicated that Maxwell would not be available for the season, reportedly due to personal commitments after the World Cup. He was not part of the main auction pool. His sudden inclusion has therefore raised questions about how the deal was finalized.

One major concern relates to Hyderabad’s remaining budget. The franchise had already signed seven foreign players and reportedly had around 1.7 crore left. They had also completed a direct signing of Marnus Labuschagne. This led to speculation about how Maxwell’s signing fits within the salary cap and squad regulations.
Reports suggest two possible explanations. One is that Hammad Azam, who currently represents the USA, may not be counted as a foreign player under league classification rules, leaving one overseas slot available. Another possibility is that Labuschagne may not be available for the full season, and Maxwell could also be signed for selected matches only, allowing financial adjustments within the budget.
The exact signing amount has not been officially disclosed.
From a cricketing perspective, Maxwell’s addition significantly strengthens Hyderabad’s squad. The team lacked a strong spin-bowling all-rounder, and Maxwell’s power-hitting ability and off-spin provide added balance to the middle order.
