PSL Auction or Draft? Whats Better for the PSL?
Discussions are underway over whether PSL 11 should use an auction or a draft system for player recruitment. According to reports, three franchises, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, and Karachi Kings, are in favor of adopting an auction model. Lahore Qalandars have opposed the idea, while Peshawar Zalmi have not yet taken a clear position.

Supporters of the auction system argue that it would enhance the PSL’s commercial value and allow equal opportunity for franchises to compete for high-profile foreign players. Under a draft, priority selection gives early-picking teams an advantage, creating imbalance when star players enter the pool.
Meanwhile, concerns from some franchises relate to retaining marquee local players under an auction format, as all teams would be able to bid for top talent. Discussions between franchises and the PCB are ongoing, and a final decision on the recruitment format for PSL 11 is yet to be made.
