Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings Head to Head
Historically, Peshawar Zalmi has had the upper hand over Karachi Kings. Out of the last 10 matches since 2019, Zalmi has won 8 and Kings have only managed to win 2. Between June 2021 and March 2023, Zalmi defeated Karachi in all 6 matches. At the Rawalpindi Stadium, where tomorrow’s match will be held, both teams have one win each in previous encounters.
Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings Playing XI
In terms of foreign players, many big names will not be returning for the second phase. Players like Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Sam Billings, Colin Munro, Jason Holder, Mitchell Owen, Alzarri Joseph, Rassie van der Dussen, Chris Jordan, and several others will not participate due to international commitments and travel limitations following the war. This will heavily impact the team combinations of both franchises.
Peshawar Zalmi’s expected playing XI may include Mohammad Sadaqat, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Haris, Najibullah Zadran, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Mohammad Ali, Ahmed Daniyal, Ali Raza, Aamer Jamal, and possibly Arif Yaqoob. The final decision will depend on pitch conditions.
Karachi Kings, on the other hand, have a solid top order and have retained most of their foreign players. Their expected playing XI includes Tim Seifert, James Vince, Saad Baig (who played impressively in the last match against Lahore), Irfan Khan, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nabi, Aamer Jamal, Abbas Afridi, Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, and potentially David Warner, if available.
Karachi appears to be the stronger and more balanced team, especially in the bowling department. Irfan Khan has stabilized their middle order while Hasan Ali continues to perform consistently. Although Zalmi’s batting has improved significantly thanks to Saim and Sadaqat, the absence of foreign players will hurt their bowling strength. At this stage, Karachi has a 60% chance of winning, while Zalmi’s chances stand at 40%.
