PSL 11 – Franchises Reject Super 6 Model

In the recent meeting, discussions were held regarding the PSL 2026 Schedule and format of the PSL 11. A decision was also made on how the tournament format should proceed. As you know, the PSL previously followed a round-robin format where each team played against every other team twice. However, with the inclusion of more teams this season, there were also talks about increasing the number of matches.

The PCB, however, is reportedly in favor of keeping the total number of matches limited. Previously, the PSL featured around 32 to 36 matches, and this time, the board wants to keep it between 35 and 44 matches to avoid an excessively long season.

Meanwhile, the PSL franchises have reportedly rejected the proposal presented by the league’s management. The proposal from the PCB suggested that, with eight teams participating this season, each team would play one match against every other team in the first round, meaning a total of seven matches per team. The bottom two teams on the points table would then be eliminated, leaving six teams to advance to a “Super Six” stage. From there, two more teams would be eliminated, and the remaining four would qualify for the next round, followed by the eliminators and the final.

While this is the model proposed by the PCB, the franchises believe it would not be beneficial. In their view and understandably so, the early elimination of two teams could reduce interest and excitement in the league. Since the PSL is a franchise-based tournament rather than an international series, all teams should have equal opportunities throughout the season.

Therefore, the franchises have rejected the “Super Six” model proposed by the PCB. It now remains to be seen what final format will be adopted for PSL 11.
