PSL – Two Rules Change in PSL 11 Trade and Retentions
The PSL is expected to implement major changes to its retention rules ahead of the new season. According to the latest developments, franchises have agreed in principle to limit player retentions to three or four, instead of the previous eight.
Discussions are also underway regarding the roles of mentors and ambassadors. The key concern is that if teams are allowed to use these roles, the purpose of the category cap will be undermined. For example, a Platinum player could be shifted to the Diamond category as an ambassador, or a Diamond player could be moved to Gold as a mentor, allowing teams to bypass the one-player-per-category restriction.

Under the proposed rule, each franchise will only be allowed to retain one player from each category. This change will pose challenges for top teams with multiple star players but will benefit new franchises by allowing them to acquire quality players and strengthen their squads.
The upcoming draft or auction is expected to be highly competitive, as many top players could become available under the new retention policy.
